The Story of the Oldest Model Railroad Club in the St. Louis Area: Big Bend Railroad Club – Gateway NMRA Meeting Aug. 19, 2019

The next monthly meeting of the Gateway Division will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019 at VFW Post 805 in O’Fallon, Illinois. Ken Rimmel will present “80 Years In Webster Groves, The Story of the Oldest Model Railroad Club In the St. Louis Area, Big Bend Railroad Club.” This informational presentation of how ten high school students and one adult advisor began what became the area’s oldest model railroad club, how they received permission to occupy a portion of an active railroad depot, and how they eventually became owners of a depot that has been in use since it opened in 1910. Attendees will also learn of its connection to the Wabash, Frisco & Pacific Railroad, and the problems the club had to overcome, and problems still facing the club. Our monthly meetings are always open to the public. Refreshments are provided at the meeting. Guests are always welcome.
