The next monthly meeting of the Gateway Division will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in West St. Louis County. Rich Velten will demonstrate the use of the various types of speakers and enclosures he installs in HO scale engines when adding sound. The demonstration will include the effect of using a speaker with and without an enclosure, using small inexpensive speakers versus higher quality speakers, the sound quality of high bass speakers, rectangular speakers and enclosed speakers, and using very small “sugar cube” type speakers (the type commonly found in cell phones and tablets). He will have a DCC sound decoder hooked up to quickly switch between different speakers so the differences in sound quality of those speakers can be immediately compared. He will also provide information on the sources and costs of the speakers he demonstrates. Our monthly meetings are always open to the public. Refreshments are provided at the meeting.
