The next monthly meeting of the Gateway Division will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in West St. Louis County. David Lowell will present a history of the Chicago & Illinois Midland Railway, an examination of the 121 mile long class 1 short line located in central Illinois from its predecessor’s first charter through growth, dieselization, and its current status. The discussion will include its ties to the Robber Barons of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the uniqueness of its operating features (many typically found in the larger class 1 railroads), and a look at its physical plant, operations, and equipment. Our monthly meetings are always open to the public. Refreshments are provided at the meeting. Guests are always welcome. More information, and driving directions to the meeting, are available on our website.
